Porter's 7th Birthday Party

Porter's birthday is actually not until next Friday but because of our move we did his birthday party a little early. He's made some great little friends in 1st Grade that he's really going to miss. And he has never had a frind party, so even tho things are a little crazy in our lives right now I decided to let him invite a few friends to his party. And because our house is mostly in boxes we did it at the park. The forecast was for rain, so we were very grateful there were only gale-force winds, that died down only after the balloons were hopelessly tangled and I had duct taped down the plastic table cloths. One friend was out of town, so Kyler took his place. We ate pizza, played some games (pictures of the 3-legged race below), popped water balloons, opened presents, decorated cupcakes, and played basketball. It was a fun, wild time!

Kyler's 3rd Grade Talent Show

Kyler was planning on playing the piano for his class talent show, he really is quite the good little piano player. But he was playing basketball at a friend's house yesterday and jammed his finger. Last night it hurt too bad to play the piano, so he borrowed his friend's pogo stick and decided to do a pogo stick routine instead! He was up at 6:30am practicing out in the garage. He did a few tricks and the grand finale was jumping with no hands. It was a hit! Way to go Kyler!

Porter's Class Birthday Treats

Porter's birthday is the day after school gets out so his teacher let me bring treats today to celebrate that he is turning 7. I wish I would have had more time to make something, but since our house is mostly in boxes we came up with this. I was glad his class loved them (I've decided anything with candy gets ooohs and ahhhs) and it was funny to see them licking the lolli-pop while holding the cupcake.

Happy almost 7th birthday Porter!

Packing.

And playing.
The moving truck is coming next Tuesday!

Round the Loop

We have this loop behind our townhouse that we like to bike/walk/rollerblade around. We used to walk around it every night as a family last Fall when I was pregnant with Malia. We have good memories of those evenings when Dave was here and the kids would bike or rollerblade while we walked. The kids and I did a loop around the other night. I love the view we have of the Temple.

Notice Porter is riding his bike with rollerblades on. What talent!

Kyler's Walking Field Trip

Kyler's 3rd Grade went on a walking field trip to the Nature Park last Monday and Kyler asked me to come along as a helper. Our little group included Kyler, his best friend Chase, Caulen, and Brenner. They were a great group of boys, I enjoyed walking with them. We had to go on a scavenger hunt around the nature park looking for things they have learned about in science this year, like sedimentary rocks. I don't know what a sedimentary rock is! Then we ate our sack lunches and the classes played some games.
Kyler wanted the camera to take some shots...

Caulen was starving and kept asking when we were going to eat lunch. When he heard Brenner's name he said, "It sounds like breakfast and dinner." It made me laugh.
Brenner had a blast throwing rocks into the pond and playing at the playground.
I'm so glad Kyler still wants me to come along on things like this. He is such a good boy and I sure love him!

5 Months

Since Malia is almost 6 months old I thought I better take her 5 month picture with the bear. I am so thankful for this sweet little girl, she continues to be such a joy and a blessing to me. Her eyes sparkle and when I look in them it's like I get a glimpse into her sweet little soul. She brings such joy to our whole family and makes everyone happy. All we have to do is talk to Malia and then we all feel better, even in the grumpiest moments. We love you little Miss Mia! What she's doing this month: liking everything we give her to eat, so far rice cereal, green beans, and applesauce. She is still getting up in the night to eat. She loves her jumper. She loves to eat her toys. She's getting good with her hands. She can almost sit up by herself (at 5 1/2 months). She giggles so cute, we all love it. She loves to be held and loves to be outside. She is very good natured and usually always happy.

Jumper

Mia loves the jumper. The kids love her in the jumper! She is such good entertainment for them. They love to make her laugh.

Crazy Hair/ Pajama Day

School is winding down. The last couple weeks are full of lots of activities and fun for the kids. They are loving it! Yesterday was Crazy Hair Day for the 3rd Grade so we tried to be creative with Kyler's hair. What he really wanted to do was dye it a different color, so since we didn't have any dye on hand we used a little craft paint!

And it was Pajama Day for 2nd and 1st graders. Porter has looked forward to having a pajama day the whole school year and finally, finally his class got to have one. He was so afraid all year that they would never have a pajama day so it was a joyful day indeed for Porter. Kyler and Lexi, on the other hand have had several this year. But what is better than trading in schoolwork for pillows and blankets and an afternoon of reading in their pajamas!

Green Beans

I can't help taking pictures of our little munchkin. She tried green beans a couple nights ago and loved em! Not sure which she loved more, the beans, or playing with her spoon after she was done. Little sweetheart!

Monumental Weekend

We had such a full weekend. It was wonderful and bittersweet at the same time. Wonderful because Dave was able to fly home from New York on Friday night for Lexi's baptism and it filled up the empty part inside my heart. It was so good to see him, words can't even begin to describe the joy it brought to have him home again. It was so nice to have someone here to laugh with, to cry with, to smile at when our kids said something funny, extra hands to make the pancakes on Sunday morning, another voice of authority to get the kids going, extra help to get the kids ready, someone's arms to go to when I needed a hug, gosh just a million things. It was so so good to have him home again. And it is so hard to have him gone again. I took him back to the Salt Lake Airport yesterday afternoon and when the kids and I got home last night I cried myself to sleep. It seems mind-boggling to me that it can hurt so much to have him gone again when we've done this already for 7 weeks. But it does. I miss him so much. Over and over during the weekend I thought how lucky I am to have him. I'm so thankful to be married to him and I can't wait to join him in New York in a few weeks! And I've eaten way too much ice cream today trying to cope with having him gone! haha.

And it was Mother's Day yesterday. I am so thankful for my own wonderful mother, my sweet mother-in-law, my grandmothers, and so thankful for the chance to be a mother.

Okay.... on to our weekend.

Here is Lexi on Friday morning with her favorite birthday treat, cookie pizza, to share with her class. I always like going to my kids' classrooms and seeing the dynamic with their teachers and kids I've heard about through the stories of their day.

After school I dropped the boys off at my parents house and Lexi, Malia and I headed to Idaho Falls where Lexi got her birthday wish of getting her ears pierced. She was so brave!

And happy to have earrings again! She got her ears pierced when she was 6 and they got infected and sealed shut. Now that she's a little older I think it will work out better, hopefully! She was very excited and all smiles.
Then we drove down to Salt Lake to pick up Dave at the airport. He flew in at 10:45pm and boy was it good to see him! We talked and talked and talked and talked all the way home and weren't paying attention to the road and missed the exit by Tremonton so we kept on going toward Boise. We didn't notice until we had gone 45 miles in the wrong direction. It was nearly 1 in the morning and we had to backtrack back to Tremonton and then continue on. Uggh! That's something we'll always remember. We got home around 3:30am and were so super tired, but gosh was it good to have him home!

The next morning was Lexi's 8th birthday and she wanted cinnamon rolls and bacon for her birthday breakfast.

Then she opened her presents. A pillow pet, a baptism activity book from Grandma, and a New York shirt from Daddy were her favorite gifts.
We were all so glad to have Dave home we couldn't get enough of him. Here are all the boys surrounding him while watching Lexi open her presents.
While Lexi was playing with her new gifts the boys went outside to play baseball with Dave. They were having a great time. Then Porter came in hysterical with blood all over and he'd been hit in the mouth with a baseball. He was doing so well at catching and was trying to catch a fast one from Kyler and missed. It knocked out one of his permanent teeth and burst open his bottom lip in several places. I called the dentist while Dave was trying to keep him calm, and he told us to come in so we spent the next hour in the dentist's office where Porter had to get a little fake tooth built on to the remaining root. He was so sad, it just broke my heart. This picture is later on that night and doesn't do it justice, but he wanted a picture to show his class for show and tell. His new tooth looks pretty real, but won't last forever. He'll have to have more work done on it later on. However we are grateful for a kind dentist that met us there on a Saturday! Porter's poor lip is still so swollen and sore.
Then we came home to get ready for Lexi's baptism. It's pretty special that she was able to be baptized on her birthday. She was really excited and it was a nice evening. I was so teary from all the emotions of the day. We took a few pictures before the baptism started. Here is Lexi in her white dress. I told her that her next white dress would be her wedding dress and I would probably be crying that day too!

A picture with Daddy.
A picture with Mom and Dad.
A picture of our family.
And a picture of Lexi and Daddy in their baptism clothes. I'm so thankful that Dave could be home to baptize her. It is such a neat thing for father's to be able to do for their children. I'm so thankful for the priesthood he holds and that he can bless our children and perform these sacred ordinances for them.
I loved being able to meet her in the dressing room with her towel. We took a moment to pause and soak in the wonderful experience she had just had. She felt so happy and we both cried a little. It was a tender moment.
Then she received the gift of the Holy Ghost and we had a picture of everyone there. The program was so nice and I appreciate everyone that made it so special. My mom spoke about baptism and Dave's mom spoke about the Holy Ghost, and Lexi and her cousins Lizzy and Abbie sang Lexi's favorite Primary song, "I Know Heavenly Father Loves Me." My sister Em played the piano and everything turned out so nice.
We had a yummy dinner at Dave's parents house and my sister Em made this beautiful white cake for Lexi's birthday/baptism cake. It was the perfect ending for her baptism day.

Lexi put in 8 candles and her cousins helped blow them out while we sang "Happy Birthday". It was such a special day, one she will always remember.
